About Rasa Shastra

  1. यत्र च रसायनं तत्र च आयुर्वेद - Where there is Rasa Shastra, there is Ayurveda.
  2. 'Rasashastra' deals with therapeutic processing and use of all minerals and metals, the study is dominated by knowledge about mercury and techniques of its processing. The science is named after mercury - 'Rasa' being a synonym of 'Mercury'.

अथातः सर्वोपघातशमनीयं रसायनं व्याख्यास्यामः ||१||

पूर्वे वयसि मध्ये वा मनुष्यस्य रसायनम् |
प्रयुञ्जीत भिषक् प्राज्ञः स्निग्धशुद्धतनोः सदा ||३||
नाविशुद्धशरीरस्य युक्तो रासायनो विधिः |
न भाति वाससि क्लिष्टे रङ्गयोग इवाहितः ||४||
शरीरस्योपघाता ये दोषजा मानसास्तथा |
उपदिष्टाः प्रदेशेषु तेषां वक्ष्यामि वारणम् ||५||

Urgent need for Study and Reasearch on Ras Shastra by Buddhist sage Nagarjuna

The biggest need of the present time is that the scientists associated with chemistry should study these texts in depth. PC Ray himself was not an expert in Sanskrit but he knew chemistry. He acquired the information of the texts with the help of experts of Sanskrit and then wrote History of Hindu Chemistry by testing it on the touchstone of modern chemistry. Modern chemists need to work by keeping his book as a reference. Nagarjuna made a significant contribution in medical science. Just like Sushruta Samhita, he wrote a book named Uttar Tantra. In this, the methods of treatment of many diseases and the medicines used for them are written. Apart from this, he has also written a book named Arogya Manjari on Ayurveda. Nagarjuna did a lot of research work on chemistry and metallurgy. He wrote many books on chemistry, out of which 'Ras Ratnakar' and 'Rasendra Mangal' are very famous. Along with being a chemist and metallurgist, he prepared medicines for many incurable diseases with his medical wisdom. His famous books in the field of medical science are Rasa Ratnakar, 'Kakshaputtantra', 'Arogya Manjari', 'Yoga Saar' and 'Yogashtak'.

By Road from Dehradun

  • Car/Taxi: You can drive or hire a taxi from Dehradun, which is about 30 kilometers away. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic.
  • Bus:
    1. There are local buses that run from Dehradun to Thano. You can catch a bus from the Dehradun bus station at Parade Ground. After alighting at Thano chowk, walk for 1 min (550.0 m) via Thano Road to the center.
    2. Alternatively board a bus to Haridwar or Rishikesh from I.S.B.T. Dehradun and alight at Bhaniyawala. Then take an Auto-rickshaw to the center at Thano.
  • Auto-rickshaws: Once you are in Dehradun, you can also hire an auto-rickshaw for a more local experience.

By Train

Thano is near mid point of Haridwar and Dehradun, both are major railway stations.

  • Train to Haridwar: After arriving, board a bus to Dehradun and alight at Bhaniyawala. Then take an Auto-rickshaw to center at Thano.
